Implementation Plan PICOT For Children between 1 and 10 years old with a BMI 95th percentile (P), how effective is dietary modification, along with exercise (I), in decreasing BMI and diagnosis of diabetes (O) over the next 12 months (T)? Thought Process Obesity has been increasing over the last few decades. Education regarding the lack of physical activity, the need for healthier options for meals and the removal of candy or soda has been provided to parents. However, childhood obesity has still been on the rise. When does a physician, parent or family determine a child is obese? When does a physician determine that a child is healthy? Would a physician use BMI to determine if obese and if the patient has an increased risk of being diabetic? There are many studies to reference regarding childhood obesity and diabetes. When medical professionals and parents work together to create a plan with diet, exercise and other healthy interventions, it has been proven to reduce weight, decrease BMI and reduce the diagnosis of diabetes in adolescents and early adults.
