BACKGROUND
• The priority of national development as outlined in the National Long-Term Development Plan
(RPJP) for 2005 – 2025 (UU No. 17 of 2007) includes creating a society that is noble, moral, ethical,
cultured and civilized based on the Pancasila philosophy.

begun to realize the importance of efforts to form, direct and regulate human beings as the community
aspires to be.
DEFINITION
• The definition of character according to the Language Center of the Ministry of National Education
is innate, heart, soul, personality, character, behavior, personality, nature, character, temperament,
character.

by going through a PROCESS that is not instantaneous. Character is not something innate that cannot
be changed anymore like fingerprints.
• Everyone is responsible for his character. We have FULL CONTROL over our character, meaning
we cannot blame others for our good or bad character, because we are fully responsible. Developing
character is our own personal RESPONSIBILITY.
NATIONAL CHARACTER EDUCATION

• Character controls our thoughts and behavior, which of course determines our success, the way we
live life, achieve obsessions and solve problems.
• Character education through schools, is not merely learning knowledge, but more than that, namely
the cultivation of morals, ethical values, aesthetics, and noble character. And most importantly,
practice after the information is given and do it with discipline by every element of the school.
