CHARACTER EDUCATION IN SCHOOLS
Abstract
Character education suddenly becomes a hot topic in the world of education
Indonesia, although the notion of character is an idea as old as history
education, but the emergence of the idea of "character education" (character
building) interrupting our nation, especially those that are currently engulfing the nation
Indonesia. Problems that occur such as violence, corruption, manipulation,
lying practices in the world of education ranging from cheating
in exams to plagiarism, lack of exemplary among the nation's leaders, and
so on, is actually a matter of character. Even though it's too late
in implementing character education in schools, "But late than never", still
many generations of us are students who sit in school and need it
character education so that in the future they become people who are not only intelligent
intellectually but also has character. The world of education is expected to be
the driving force as stated by the Minister of Service Muhammad Nuh
in the commemoration of the 2010 National Education Day that "Development and
Character Education is a must because education does not only make
smart learners. Education is also to build character and politeness
manners in life". The character boundaries are in two regions.Ia
believed to exist as a natural human nature, while on the other hand it is believed to be necessary
"formed" through education, one of which is through character education
at school. Implementation of character education in schools as an alternative
stated in this paper are: through midwifery with the 4 M formula
(knowing, loving, wanting and doing, also with the method
habituation . Besides that, through the method of: teaching, exemplary, determining
priorities and priority praxis.
