BSIT Thesis Documentation

Abstract:

In today's fast-paced business environment, efficient inventory management is crucial for the success of
retail stores. However, many retail stores still rely on manual methods for managing inventory, which
can be time-consuming and prone to errors. The purpose of this thesis is to develop and implement a
web-based inventory management system that can assist retail stores in managing their inventory more
efficiently. The system will be developed using the latest web development technologies, such as HTML,
CSS, JavaScript, and PHP. The system will feature a user-friendly interface, allowing store managers to
easily track and update inventory levels, generate reports, and set reorder points. The system will also
include a barcode scanning feature, which will allow store employees to quickly and accurately update
inventory levels. This thesis will also include an evaluation of the system's effectiveness in improving
inventory management processes for retail stores.

, Chapter 1: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study

In today's highly competitive retail industry, efficient inventory management is crucial for the success of
retail stores. However, many retail stores still rely on manual methods for managing inventory, which
can be time-consuming and prone to errors. This can lead to stockouts, excess inventory, and increased
costs for the store. A web-based inventory management system can assist retail stores in managing their
inventory more efficiently by automating inventory tracking and reporting, reducing the risk of errors,
and improving the overall inventory management process.

1.2 Problem Statement

Retail stores often face challenges in managing their inventory effectively due to the use of manual
inventory management methods. These methods are time-consuming, prone to errors, and do not
provide real-time inventory data. This can lead to stockouts, excess inventory, and increased costs for
the store. There is a need for a web-based inventory management system that can assist retail stores in
managing their inventory more efficiently.

1.3 Objectives

The main objective of this thesis is to develop and implement a web-based inventory management
system for retail stores that can assist in managing inventory more efficiently. The specific objectives of
the thesis are:

To design and develop a web-based inventory management system that can be easily used by store
managers and employees.

To integrate a barcode scanning feature into the system to improve the accuracy and speed of inventory
updates.

To evaluate the effectiveness of the system in improving inventory management processes for retail
stores.

1.4 Significance of the Study

This study will provide valuable information on the use of web-based systems for inventory
management in the retail industry. The system developed in this thesis can be used as a model for other
retail stores looking to improve their inventory management processes. Additionally, the research and
