Development of a Web-Based System for Monitoring and Controlling Smart Homes
BSCS Thesis Documentation
Abstract:
The increasing popularity of smart homes has led to the need for a convenient and efficient way to
monitor and control these homes remotely. This study aims to develop a web-based system that allows
homeowners to monitor and control various aspects of their smart homes such as lighting, temperature,
security, and appliances through a single platform. The system will be designed using open-source
technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP. It will also integrate with various smart home
devices through their APIs to provide real-time monitoring and control. The effectiveness of the system
will be evaluated by conducting user testing with a group of smart home users. The results will be used
to improve the usability and functionality of the system.
Chapter 1: Introduction
1.1 Background
The increasing popularity of smart homes has led to the need for a convenient and efficient way to
monitor and control these homes remotely. Smart homes are equipped with various devices and
appliances that can be controlled through a central system or through the Internet. However, current
solutions for monitoring and controlling smart homes are often limited to specific devices and brands,
and may require multiple apps and interfaces for different devices. This can make it difficult for
homeowners to monitor and control all aspects of their smart homes through a single platform.
1.2 Problem Statement
The problem with current solutions for monitoring and controlling smart homes is that they are often
limited to specific devices and brands, and may require multiple apps and interfaces for different
devices. This makes it difficult for homeowners to monitor and control all aspects of their smart homes
through a single platform.
1.3 Objectives
The objective of this study is to develop a web-based system that allows homeowners to monitor and
control various aspects of their smart homes such as lighting, temperature, security, and appliances
through a single platform.
, 1.4 Significance of the Study
This study is significant because it addresses the problem of the current limited solutions for monitoring
and controlling smart homes and provides a more convenient and efficient way for homeowners to
monitor and control their smart homes remotely.
1.5 Scope and Limitations
The scope of this study includes the design and development of a web-based system for monitoring and
controlling smart homes. The system will be designed to work with various smart home devices and
integrate with their APIs to provide real-time monitoring and control. The limitations of this study
include the focus on a single platform for controlling smart home devices and the limitation to specific
smart home devices that are compatible with the system's design.
