EXPERIMENT 12
WAVES ON A STRING
Simulation link: https://phet.colorado.edu/sims/html/wave-on-a-string/latest/wave-on-a-string_en.html.
Objective:
To verify how wave speed is affected with constant and varying values of frequency and amplitude.
Procedure:
1. Tick OSCILLATE, FIXED END, RULERS and REFERENCE LINE.
2. Study the controls of this simulation package and perform the experiment according to the settings
specified in the data sheet below for each part.
3. Measure the wavelength (λ) using the ruler and record the values.
4. Calculate the period and wave speed. Period (τ) is calculated as the inverse of the given frequency (f)
while wave speed (v) is the product of the wavelength and frequency.
