Our Environment
2 types of waste material
the waste product are poisonous and can be defined in 2 groups
Biodegradable and non-biodegradable
BIODEGRADABLE
waste material which can be broken down into non-poisonous substances
which is done by DECOMPOSERS(microorganisms) those plants and animal which die
the materials present in there body are converted from complex materials to simple materials.
those materials which can be converted into simpler substances are called BIO-DEGRADABLE WASTE
for example- compost,leather,tea,wood.
NON-BIODEGRADABLE
waste materials which cannot be broken down into poisonous substances and cannot
be converted into simpler substabces in due course of time is called NON-BIODEGRADABLE WASTE
for example-plastic,polithine bags,iron nails,alluminium cans
1. Why some material are biodegradable whereas other non-biodegradable
The microorganisms like bacterias and other decomposers called saprophytes present in our
environment are specific in their action. They break down natural materials or products made form
natural materials like paper but can not break down man made substances like plastic.
ECOSYSTEM
An ecosystem is a self contained unit of living things plant animals and decomposers and their non
living environment soil air and water.(combination of living and non living).
for example- mountain,pond,lake,river,sea
Components of ecosystem –Bioitic and Abiotic
Biotic-Includes all living things.it is divided into 3 levels
1.Producers-make their own food for example- green plats
2.Consumers/heterotrophs -those who depend on plants.for example-humans
3.Decomposers-convert natural waste into simpler substances
