How did the Roosevelt Corollary help the shift from expansionist policies to policies of intervention? In the early 1900s, concern over European creditors' pressure on debt-ridden Santo Domingo (present-day Dominican Republic) led President Theodore Roosevelt to issue the Roosevelt Corollary to the Monroe Doctrine. Roosevelt stated that the United States would intervene as a last resort when other nations in the Western Hemisphere were threatened with European intervention. This willingness for the United States to take on the role of regional overseer solidified a pattern for future intervention in world affairs. Of course, President Roosevelt was known for his motto, "Speak softly and carry a big stick." The big stick was the willingness to use force, if necessary. Therefore, it can be seen that the Roosevelt Corollary combined with aspects of the Monroe Doctrine, as well as the word from President Roosevelt, caused a deterrent in the Western Hemisphere. Which country was not an ally of the United States in World War II. Great Britain Italy Soviet Union Italy What was the Marshall Plan about and what did it accomplish? The European Recovery Act of 1948, more commonly known as the Marshall Plan, restored European agriculture and industry. America contributed more than 13 billion dollars to this effort. Although it can be argued that the United States served its own self-interests by aiding Europe, the Marshall Plan clearly had an immensely beneficial impact on Western Europe. More importantly, the plan demonstrated what aid and encouragement toward democracy could achieve. In addition, the plan signaled a shift in America's involvement in European affairs. No longer would America be primarily isolationist or even expansionist in foreign policy. America's intervention in international affairs was now part of the fabric of global relationships. What was the actual name of the Marshall Plan? The European Recovery Act The Embargo Act The Homeland Security Act The European Recovery Act Why are civil peace efforts often so difficult to accomplish successfully? One of the difficulties with interventionism for the purpose of establishing peace, particularly in the Middle East, is that a nation that may be an ally at one time or in one capacity may prove itself to be an enemy when the political playing field changes. A nation may be America's friend when it comes to economic issues yet have a deplorable human rights record when it comes to political, economic, or religious freedom for its own people. As conditions change, America's relationships with nations have changed. That makes international relationships very tenuous. What have been the primary motivations for America's foreign policy of intervention? For the sake of many people living under the threat of the radical Islamic militants, as well as for the continued peace and safety of the American people, the United States must continue to do everything possible to root out the elusive terrorists and put an end to their brutal actions. This noble aspect of America's foreign policy is fraught with danger and conflict, but it is consistent with America's love for freedom and prosperity for all, and it is an indication of America's Biblical heritage of liberty and charity. 1. those who rise in revolt against authority 2. a temporary alliance 3. restraint 4. foundation 1) insurgents 2) coalition 3) containment 4) infrastructure Why is terrorism so difficult to fight?
