COURSE DESCRIPTION
Throughout the course, a survey of the structure, function, health, and diseases of
the human body is conducted. In this course, emphasis is placed on the
understanding of the physiologic mechanisms that maintain each body system. A
general foundation will be laid in the vocabulary of anatomy and physiology.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
By the end of the course, the student will be able to
1. Describe the basic levels of organization within the human body
2. Explain in detail the body systems and the physiologic mechanisms that
maintain each body system
3. Present a survey of the structure and functions of the human body.
4. Have a general foundation in the vocabulary of anatomy and physiology
5. Discuss some diseases of concern to public health.
6. Know how diseases can be prevented and controlled.
7. Apply the knowledge gained to his or her own health by taking more
active role in caring for himself/herself.
