An essay is a group of paragraphs that explain an idea.
An essay contains 3 to 5 paragraphs.
A prompt is a question (or statement) that your essay answers (for example: what is the best
exercise).
Don’t use words like: me, we, I, like, etc.
Tell your opinion as a fact!
Don’t use: isn’t, aren’t, wasn’t, it’s > is not, are not, was not, it is
Introduction
Hook:
The first sentence is the hook
it’s called the hook to get the attention of the reader. There are 5 types of hooks:

Surprising fact or statistic According to the WHO, 1 in 4 adults do not get enough
exercise.
Interesting question Does exercise only improve health when it’s difficult.
Wise quote Reading to the mind is what exercise is to the body
contradiction People think strenuous exercise is better than easy exercise
– but almost no one does a strenuous routine twice.
Why the topic is important People need exercise to stay healthy.
Background information:
Background information, information to prepare your readers for the message about the
topic. This can be done in 6 different ways (be sure it’s not the same as the hook):

Surprising statistic or fact A vigorous 30-minute walk raises your heart rate and burns
over 100 calories
Definition Vigorous exercise is physical activity that raises the heart
rate and speeds up breathing
Positive or negative Many people view walking as too easy to improve health or
