Handout 1: Smart Health Promotion in the Challenges of the Digital Age and the
Opportunities
Background : Building resilient infrastructure, promoting inclusive and sustainable
industrialization and fostering innovation. Based on the Shanghai Health Promotion
Declaration in 2030, the 2016 agenda for sustainable development has 3 priorities, namely:
- Good governance
- Healthy City and Community
- Health literature for all
In the current social activity that occurs per minute, as many as 1 million people enter on
social media type Facebook, 350 thousand people enter Instagram, 188 million emails, 18
million texts and 42 million messages on social media. Apart from social media, it is also
known that as much as 1 million dollars was spent on shopping, 3.8 million searches, 4.5
million watching YouTube, 700 thousand hours watching Netflix. So what the virtual world
community does on the internet is:
- Spending time, money and emotions
- Obtain relationships, communications, information and interventions
- Communication, social activities
- Information tool
- Buy
- Entertainment
In 2019, there are 2.7 billion smartphone users in the world, almost 10 billion mobile devices
are used, almost all smartphones have 2/3 applications for health and fitness, while the most
used applications to spend time are social media, music, multimedia, games.
, The habit of smartphone users is known as 66% of users are addicted to playing cellphones
(nomophobia), on average smartphone owners open their devices 150 times per day or female
students spend 10 hours per day on their cellphones, 71% of users usually sleep with their
cellphones, 75% Americans use their cell phones in the toilet. Some of the health hazards of
this include:
- Mental and social well-being: Smartphone use and depression are related
- 88% of smartphone owners use their cell phones while driving
- In Seoul, the number of traffic accidents caused by smartphones has tripled in the last 5
years
The current digital landscape in health, according to WHO Digital Health is an area of
knowledge and practice related to every aspect of the adoption of digital technologies to
improve health from inception to surgery.
