ETHICS.
How does communication contribute to a holistic plan of care? How is the knowledge of the
therapeutic relationship an essential component of health promotion? What is the role of
technology in communication today? What are your thoughts on electronic/technology and
communication? What is the nursing code of ethics? What evidence is there that supports the
need for consideration of ethics in contemporary issues of health promotion? What are your
thoughts?
Holistic care is described as the therapeutic treatment which aims to healing the whole person.
The holistic care plan aims to provide therapeutic care to the body, the mind, and the spirit while
including the patient in his/her own care to promote a healthier self. In holistic environment,
both the nurse and the patient work as a team to attend the level of wholeness. To attend this
goal, the care provider must possess excellent communication skill because communicating
effectively with the patient will help the provider to learn about the patient’s concerns, feelings
and preferences. McEvoy and Duffy (2008), explained that providers must be sensitive to the
patient's spiritual and cultural belief systems, must present self as caring, present and integrating
spirituality into the nursing care plan in order to meet the needs of the patient in a holistic
manner (p. 417).
Technology has made a tremendous impact in communication today compared to what it used to
be in the past two or three decades. It was reported that 1985, there were a total of 340,000 cell
phone subscribers in the United States. In 2012, there are now 5.9 billion cell phone subscribers
worldwide (govloo.com). The evolution of technology has changed dramatically the way that we
communicate with one another and its result can be seen as both positive and negative. While it
considered one of the best inventions that were ever created, it also has robbed us of ourselves
