Waste is any substance which is discarded after primary use, or is worthless, defective and of no use


There are many types:

 Biodegradable waste – eg food waste
 Recyclable waste – eg paper, cardboard, glass, tin
 Inert waste – eg rocks, sand, construction waste
 Electrical waste – eg kitchen appliances, computers, TVs, phones, cables
 Composite waste – eg toys, clothing, drinks cartons
 Toxic waste – chemicals such as pesticides
 Biomedical waste – eg prescription drugs, infected dressings, sharps
