1.1 Ubunto is the act of respecting differences between people’s language and culture and working
together to gain unity in daily lives. My Afrikaner culture embraces ubunto by sharing what we
have with others. To understand that all people come from different financial homes and
cultural upbringing and that you should learn sensitize yourself to. To embrace each other
differences and to share a spirit of understanding and hospitability. In Afrikaner tradition we
enjoy to fill our table and share what we have with others. We respect elders and give them
priority and assistance were we can. With the world pandemic at hand, Covid-19 which doesn’t
allow large gatherings and family visits we use technology to stay connected. This is by means of
video call. We respect our duty when engaging with people to keep our distance and wear a
mask as issued social cues for Covid-19. We as Afrikaners also respect as a younger generation
not to with children and elderly in a way that is frowned upon by covid-19 regulations as they
are vulnerable to the disease. To curb the spread of pandemic we work together with other
cultural descendants in unity as a social group by not socializing in an unsafe manner (Saule,et al.
2018).

1.2 Yes I agree that culture and language are interwoven. Culture and language play a vital role on
giving perspective and understanding onto oneself. Both culture and language gives one a sense
of belonging and self-worth. Culture provides spiritual enlightenment and provide social
acceptable behaviour and norms. These social acceptable opportunities are brought forth on
religious events holidays and conduct of daily life. Language is interwoven with culture as the
Quran is written in Arabic and verses are in Arabic and is read by people of Muslim religion.
Festive days are also named Arabic names people of the culture or religion understand Arabic
(Saule,et al. 2018).

2.1The two major divisions of sound in phonetics are vowels and consonants. Vowels are always
pronounced with the use of vocal whereas consonants more less than often are accompanied by
vocal cord. A vocal consonant will be a letter such as ‘g’ whereas a voiceless sound would be ‘h’.
A vowel is formed through the speech channel without obstacle and breathe is always released
from mouth when forming vowel sounds. This is within difference to the pronunciation of a
consonant as some consonants are abrupt and speech organs are inclined to make sound by
vibration of lips, throat or tongue. These are sounds like “t” that end abruptly and “l” which
cause speech organs to enclose or vibrate to form sound. The last indifference of vowel and
consonant are that vowels form in the centre of your tongue only where consonants form more
over orally or nasally. The formation of the vowel sound “oo” is formed from breathe passing the
centre of tongue and accompanied by lip formation with no disruption. A consonant formation
of sound “m” lips are shut and speech organ is hindered through vibration the sound ‘m: is
formed (Saule, et al. 2018).

2.2 An absolute pronoun in my chosen African language which is English can be used in a place
of a noun. An example of an absolute pronoun is “He sits “.An absolute pronoun can also be in
the place of a possessive pronoun or demonstrative pronoun and can be used independently. A
possessive noun indicates possessions for example “his jersey”. An example of a demonstrative
pronoun is “their business”. A demonstrative pronoun may indicate in three different ways in
correlation to the noun. This will indicate the relative topic in perspective and possession (Saule,
et al. 2018).
