Title Plant fibre tensile strength
SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH (REFERENCED):
Plant fibres are used in materials such as ropes and fabrics and are required to be strong in order to
hold weight and not be ripped. Plant fibres have cell walls containing cellulose microfibrils in a net-
like arrangement. The strength and arrangement of the microfibrils give the plant fibres their
strength. The secondary thickening (extra cell wall and lignin) is an additional factor giving plant
fibres their high tensile strength. Strength can be defined as the maximum stress a material can
withstand without failing (breaking). Tensile strength is the maximum stress caused by a pulling
force that a material can withstand without failing.
METHOD
