BIBL 410 Weekly Study Questions 1 Liberty University answers complete solutions. An Introduction to Genesis/Days of Creation Answer thoroughly the following questions based on this module/week’s Reading & Study material: 1. What is the Documentary Theory? The Documentary Theory is the theory that investigates who wrote the book o Genisis. Was it Moses or did others write some of it and he was the transcriber? The Document Theory srares that Genesis was likely two or more documents compressed into one book of the Bible. 2. Give the “contributions” Spinoza and Astruc made to this theory. Tractatus Spinoza raised serious doubts about direct Mosaic authorship and launched what is now known as “higher criticism” of the Bible. Many call Astruc the father of this theory. 3. What reasons does Davis give to refute this theory? Davis teached that there are both external and internal evidences that support Moses’ authorship of the Pentateuch. 4. Give several examples of external evidences for Mosaic authorship. The Bible in many places teach Moses as the author of Genesis. (Exodus 17:14; 24:4; 34:27; Numbers 33:1-2; Deutoronomy 31:9) Furthermore, Jesus also speaks on Moses as the author of Genesis in Mark 12:26, “And as for the dead being raised, qhave you not read in rthe book of Moses, in sthe passage about the bush, how God spoke to him, saying, t‘I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’?” (ESV). 5. Give several examples of internal evidences for Mosaic authorship. In his book Paradise to Prison, John Davis writes, “The author must have been thoroughly familiar with the desert and must, in fact, have written while in that environment (cf. Lev. 18:3; Deut. 12:9; 15:4, 7; 17:14; Num. 2:1ff.; Lev. 14:8; 16:21; 17:3, 9).”1 Because Moses was raised in Egypt, he is able to use Egyptian knowledge, which furthers the internal evidence showing that he wrote some, if not all, of Genesis. 6. Does any one specific evidence stand out to you more than the rest? Which one? Why? 1 John J. Davis (2017). Paradise to Prison: Studies in Genesis. Retrieved from

BIBL 410 Weekly Study Questions 1 Liberty University answers
complete solutions.
An Introduction to Genesis/Days
of Creation
Answer thoroughly the following questions based on this module/week’s Reading &
Study material:

1. What is the Documentary Theory?

The Documentary Theory is the theory that investigates who wrote the book o Genisis.
Was it Moses or did others write some of it and he was the transcriber? The Document
Theory srares that Genesis was likely two or more documents compressed into one book
of the Bible.

2. Give the “contributions” Spinoza and Astruc made to this theory.

Tractatus Spinoza raised serious doubts about direct Mosaic authorship and launched
what is now known as “higher criticism” of the Bible. Many call Astruc the father of this
theory.

3. What reasons does Davis give to refute this theory?

Davis teached that there are both external and internal evidences that support Moses’
authorship of the Pentateuch.

4. Give several examples of external evidences for Mosaic authorship.

The Bible in many places teach Moses as the author of Genesis. (Exodus 17:14; 24:4;
34:27; Numbers 33:1-2; Deutoronomy 31:9) Furthermore, Jesus also speaks on Moses as
the author of Genesis in Mark 12:26, “And as for the dead being raised, qhave you not
read in rthe book of Moses, in sthe passage about the bush, how God spoke to him,
saying, t‘I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’?”
(ESV).

5. Give several examples of internal evidences for Mosaic authorship.

In his book Paradise to Prison, John Davis writes, “The author must have been
thoroughly familiar with the desert and must, in fact, have written while in that
environment (cf. Lev. 18:3; Deut. 12:9; 15:4, 7; 17:14; Num. 2:1ff.; Lev. 14:8; 16:21;
17:3, 9).”1 Because Moses was raised in Egypt, he is able to use Egyptian knowledge,
which furthers the internal evidence showing that he wrote some, if not all, of Genesis.

Because I know that Jesus is God in the flesh, and that Jesus never sinned, I believe that
Moses did write Genesis.

7. Is it important to know exactly how old the earth is? Why or why not?

Because the age of the the earth is not explicitly stated in the New Testament, the proper
age of the earth is not needed to be saved. Therefore it is not necessarily important.

8. What is considered the most important purpose of Genesis? Why?

Genesis is the book of beginnings. In order to understand the end of any story, we must
first understand the beginning. Genesis is the written story of creation, the fall of man,
mankinds relationship with God, and so much more. If we did not have the book of
Genesis, nothing would be clear.

9. Discuss how Genesis is relevant for today.

The book of Genesis is relevant because with the foundational elements of Genesis, the
rest of the Bible—and history as it still gets written—would not be fully understood. The
story of Adam and Eve’s fall gives us the explination of death and need for a savior.

11. What does the use of the “waw consecutive” normally describe?

An imperfect tense of the word

12. The qal stem of the term “bara” is used exclusively in the Old Testament for what?

Davis says, “The qal stem of this verb is employed exclusively in the Old Testament for
God’s activity; the subject of the verb is never man.”2

13. Summarize the main thought of the Gap Theory.

The Gap Theory is that which say that Satan was on the earth and fell into the sin as
described in Ezekial 28:13-18 and Isaiah 14:12-15 among many other scripture that
appear which show a judgment for Satan (Jeremiah 4:23-27; Isaiah 24:1). After Satan and
the earth was judged, then God recreated the eath in six literal days. The teaching is based
on scripture rather than evolutionary theories. In short, the Gap Theory says that Satan
sinned and judged before man’s sin which is seen in scriptire as Satan came as a serpant
and lied to Eve to get her to eat the fruit in Genesis 3:4.

14. Give evidences against the Gap Theory.
