Marxism
developed in the 19th century (1800s)

beginning of industrialisation

shift in social, political, and economic organisation

emerges as a contradiction to capitalism (a way to solve the shortfalls of capitalist)

marxist ideology is defined by its opposition to capitalism

Karl Marx: wrote Communist Manifesto as a way to encourage the working class to
work together to emancipate themselves from the exploitative nature of capitalism

there are classes, not just individuals (haves and have nots)

rich people need poor people to stay rich (therefore the capitalist class will never align
themselves with the working class)

according to marx, people

self actualisation leads to emancipation

poor people need to prioritise survival over self actualisation for capitalism to continue
