Nurse practitioners are registered professional nurses who are prepared, through
advanced graduate education and clinical training, to provide a range of health services,
including the diagnosis and management of common as well as complex medical conditions to
individuals of all ages (Buppert, 2018). The role of nurse practitioner vary from state to state,
however, there services are about the same such as obtaining medical histories, taking
comprehensive physical exam, diagnosing, managing the health issues, ordering required
diagnostics laboratory tests, imaging, educating patients on health risks prevention, coordinating
with supervising physician and case management.
Goals and Objectives
1. By week 3, this nurse practitioner student will be able to describe, demonstrate,
document, and perform independently physical exams on all age groups of population.
2. By week 6, this nurse practitioner student will be able to differentiate between the
diabetes management of type 1 and type 2, will know the first line of treatment in
diabetes, and required diagnostic laboratory tests by following national guidelines.
3. By week 8, this student will order, perform, and interpret the lab tests and results for
diagnosing and screening the specific illness by following the national guidelines.
4. By week 10, this student will be able to evaluate the effectiveness of instruction, will
provide counseling as needed, and will educate on health maintenance and health
