Include the title and the artist and some background of the event. In January 2004, Michael Arad won the entry to the submission of Reflecting Absence for the 9/11 memorial. The memorial opened 10 years later on September 11, 2011.  What is the relationship between the work of art and the event? “September 11 Memorial & Museum remembers and honors the 2,983 people killed in the horrific attacks of September 11, 2001 and February 26, 1993, as well as those who risked their lives to save others and all who demonstrated extraordinary compassion in the aftermath of the attacks” (9/11 M&M, 2019)  Did the artist depict the event accurately? I feel that Arad was able to depict the pain, loss and tragedy of the event accurately through this architecture. “The focal points of the Memorial are two pools, each nearly an acre in size, that sit in the footprints of the former North and South Towers. The pools contain the largest manmade waterfalls. The water in each pool drops and disappears into a void where they can never be filled” (9/11 M&M, 2019). The sound of the cascading water makes the pools a place of tranquility and contemplation separating it from the bustling noises of the city. According to Arad, the pools represent “absence made visible.”  Does the artist make changes regarding the event?
