1. Schizophrenia: psychotic disorder characterised by major
disturbance in thought, emotion and behavior: disordered thinking in
which ideas are not logical- ly related, faulty perception and attention,
flat or inappropriate affect and bizarre disturbances in motor
-Delusions and hallucinations
•Change the name to incorporate multiple types, doesn't incorporate
the percep- tual issues and stereotype
•One of the most severe psychopathologies—life expectancy 20
years shorter o Risk factors—drug, no social support, remission of
symptoms
•Different symptoms culturally and prevalence

2. Clinical symptoms of Schizophrenia: • Disturbance in thought,
perception, attention, motor behavior, affect or emotions and life

•DSM—how many problems must be present and in what degree—
duration is important
•No essential symptoms must be present
o Presentation, course, outcome of schizo are variable and diverse
3. positive symptoms of schizo: • Comprise excesses or distortions
•Acute episodes
• Too much of a behaviour
Disorganized speech
o Can't organize ideas and can't speak
o Incoherence
Make repeated references to central ideas or theme, the image and
fragments of thought are no connected
o Loose associations and derailment
More successful in communicating but difficult sticking to
one topic Delusions
, o Firmly convinced of something not true
o No one saying otherwise helps
o Beliefs held contrary to reality
o Common
o Unwilling recipient of bodily sensation or thoughts by
