Several studies have pointed out the existence of a relationship
between social media usage and its users' mental wellness and
identifying the need to study how social media usage impacts its
user mental health. In this error marked with technology, social
media is the new norm of communications and interactions.
Millions of people join social platforms every day. It is safe to say
that social media is the modern lifestyle and way of doing things.
There are numerous benefits associated with social media; it has
the world a global village, a business can now access millions of
potential customers from all corners of the world, it takes a press
of a button to communicate to a people who are thousands of
miles away, youth have the opportunity to showcase their talents
to millions of people, consumers have a variety of goods to choose
from, and they can now shop from the comfort of their homes.
However, social media comes with the need to compare ourselves
with others, competition for fame and status, self-esteem issues,
self-morale issues, the pressure of keeping up with high standards,
emotional stress, thus the need to determine how their usage of
social media affects one’s mental health.
