Scholars,
Welcome to Week Six. You may begin posting on Monday, October 8, 2018 for
credit. This week, we will be discussing Christianity, the world’s largest religion in
terms of number of adherents. Along with your textbook reading for the week, here is
an additional reading to consider:
Quenstedt-Moe, G., & Popkess, S. (2014). Forgiveness and Health in Christian
Women. Journal Of Religion & Health, 53(1), 204-216. doi:10.1007/s10943-012-
9603-z
Remember to use an outside resource in the main post, which needs to be on or
before Wednesday. Don’t forget to look over the discussion rubric as a reference

Professor and Class,
Chang (1994) in his book review discusses the challenges that Christianity is facing
in the 21st century. The most significant difficulties addressed are institutional and
cultural (Chang, 1994). He explains that the basic church foundation faces
challenges including the very preservation of the church. He states that the church
foundation is necessary for the church community to survive to allow for individual
moral identity grounded in the institution (Chang, 1994).
I think society itself shows that these are valid concerns for the preservation of
Christianity. People are free thinkers and politics and religion although “separate”
remain enmeshed in different moral beliefs and multicultural influences. Examples
include those that oppose abortion and those that believe abortion is an individual
right, care of the poor and infirmed that cannot care for themselves both in the
United States and foreign countries, and help for the aged and working poor. These
are only a few of the moral issues that face Christianity today. Religious wars are
happening in our world today and affect the lives of many people. History has
shown a pattern of religious changes and Christianity is not immune to the passing
of time or the influence of society.

i actually feel the church needs to update their rules. They should allow priest and or
nuns to get married, People are not going down that path any more because they
want families as well as religion. I actually feel all religion needs to be revamped to
go with the times, yes the belief stays the same but things change, the world has
evolved and religion should be aswell.

Hi Tomi Lee,
I totally agree with you that church should update their rules so priests and nuns can
get married. "Priestly celibacy is rooted in tradition, not Catholic dogma, so the pope
could change it overnight" (Live Science) If that rule changes I think church would
take more modern rule , as there is saying " go with the flow.
Thanks
