, The questions are based on learning units 8 and 9 of Tutorial Letter 501.
1. Discuss the standard units' goals of measurement.
❖ A standard unit measurement gives a typical example by objects of weight,
length or capacity can be illustrated. Measurements are used to measure
quantities amounts of objects and the standard units for measurements and
their SI units are meter for length, seconds for time, moles for the amount of
substance, ampere for electric current and kelvin for temperature.
2. Discuss the role of estimation in the development of measurement concepts.
❖ The role of the estimation in the development of measurement concepts is to
measure an object or maybe compare without using any measuring tool.
❖ Estimation is the concept that an individual uses a measurement and the visual
data or information.
3. What is the difference between perimeter and area?
❖ Area means the space filled by a shape or an object or a surface it can also mean
the space inside a shape, and it is measured in square units while perimeter
refers to the measure of the length of the overview or edges of a shape, a
surface, or an object.
4. Do activity 8.7, number 2, in Tutorial letter 501.
5. Explain how the formula for the perimeter of a rectangle and square can be
introduced. Use drawings to illustrate your answer.
❖ Start the lesson by asking the learners questions related to the topic or concept
which is ‘the formula of the perimeter of the rectangle and of a square’ just to
see if they understand the topic and if they do, I will introduce and elaborate
what the topic of that day will be about.
