Nutrition Needed when Experiencing Swollen Lymph Nodes


Lymph nodes are one part of the body whose function is vital in the body, namely to maintain
the body's immune system. Just imagine if that part doesn't work properly, all causes of
disease can easily enter the body. Even so, there are still risks that can occur in the lymph
nodes and the most common is swelling.

However, can swollen lymph nodes have a bad impact on the body? This conclusion was
drawn because when the disorder occurs, it is possible that the body's immune
system becomes weaker.

Nutrition Needed by the Body When Suffering from Swollen Lymph Nodes

Swollen lymph nodes are generally caused by infection from bacteria or viruses. You can
suffer from this disorder because there is a reaction from too many immune cells produced
by the lymph nodes to deal with the infection. In rare cases, you can get this disorder caused
by cancer . But before that, what are lymph nodes?

Lymph nodes have an important role as the body's defense against infection. This part of the
body functions as a filter to trap viruses or bacteria and other disease-causing agents before
they cause infection. Areas that are more common to experience swollen lymph nodes are
the neck, under the chin, armpits, to the groin.

Then, what nutrients does the body need so that swollen lymph nodes are resolved more
quickly? Here are some of the lists:

1. Carbohydrates

One of the nutrients needed when you have swollen lymph nodes is carbohydrates. This
content is a source of energy for the body and also provides excellent fiber for
digestion. Even so, you shouldn't overdo consuming some types of foods that are rich in
carbohydrates, just enough so that the body gets back in shape and can overcome the
swelling.

2. Fiber

Fiber is one of the nutrients that can make swollen lymph nodes better. Some foods that are
rich in these nutrients are vegetables and fruit. Make sure to meet the body's fiber needs per
day of around 30 grams. In addition, the content of green vegetables can maintain the
amount of fluid in the lymph nodes which makes it return to normal faster. Some
recommended vegetables are broccoli, spinach, and kale.

3. Healthy Fats

Consumption of healthy fats or unsaturated fats can also be done to keep body cells fit. In
addition, fat also contains omega-3 fatty acids which are good for regulating the
cardiovascular system. Some foods that are rich in these nutrients are salmon, tuna,
sardines, and some seeds. Therefore, make sure you always fulfill these contents.

Those are some of the nutrients that must be met when suffering from swollen lymph
nodes. By knowing all of these things, you can make the disorder that occurs heal
faster. That way, existing activities can return to normal without any hindrance.
