Catalog Description
Human behavior in educational situations. Individual differences, factors affecting learning,
behavioral and cognitive learning, motivation, testing, and assessment.
Detailed Description
Specifically, this course is designed to explore information and theories revolving around how
our minds work. Primary topics of interest will be how the brain works, how we learn, and how
behaviorist views of learning impact our understanding of the human mind. Topics covered in
this course include:
● Learning and Memory, and You
● Brain Basics
● Behaviorism
● Social Cognitive Theory and Cognition
● Developmental Perspectives
● Problems with Memory
Prerequisites
None.
Course Format
This class will be conducted as an online learning course, including but not limited to online
discussions, quizzes/study questions, and written and applied projects. For an accelerated 7.5
week session, a student should be prepared to spend approximately 5-6 hours a week on
coursework for a 1-credit class.

Course Assignments

Please Note: The major assignments for this course will be automatically routed through

Signature Assignment
A signature assignment provides direct evidence of student achievement and progress. The
signature assignment in this course is intended to assess important skills and abilities and to
identify areas of strength and challenge; it is meant to be cumulative and to help instructors
review a student's progress towards the course outcomes. Signature assignments also serve as
a component of the program assessment. Your signature assignment will be submitted to
Blackboard.
Mini-Project
For the last unit of the course, you will demonstrate what you’ve learned about the various
theories and concepts discussed in this class. You will create an outline of class theories as they
relate to your life. Next, you will create a digital presentation to educate others on your
perspective of learning and memory in everyday life. Specific guidelines and grading criteria will
be posted in Blackboard. Be certain to produce a professional product, as writing, grammar,
organization, and comprehensiveness will be expected. Helpful tips for presentation design and
instructions will be provided in Blackboard.
