Symbols of Non-Christian Origin Religion has been an integral part of human society since the dawn of civilization. It has served as a moral compass, a source of comfort, and a means of community bonding. Among the world's religions, Christianity and Buddhism are two of the largest and most influential. Both religions have distinct beliefs, practices, and symbols, but they share a common goal of promoting ethical and spiritual development (Black, 2000). This essay aims to contrast the beliefs and practices of Christianity and Buddhism. It focuses on their views of God, the afterlife, and the role of the individual in achieving salvation. Buddhism is a global religion that has spread across many distinct cultures and regions. It has developed a rich variety of symbols and rituals reflecting its followers' diversity (Yong, 2016). These symbols and rituals serve to represent key concepts and teachings, connect practitioners with the divine, and cultivate values such as mindfulness, compassion, and generosity. While Christianity and Buddhism differ in their understanding of God and the afterlife, they share a similar approach to the individual's path to salvation, emphasizing self-reflection, compassion, and moral conduct (Yong, 2004).
