Nurse staffing is a challenge in the healthcare field yet their role in the provision of quality care cannot be underestimated. Lack of enough nurses leads to poor productivity among the caregivers, thereby affecting the patients’ quality of care. The poor productivity is attributed to the strained workforce that results from overworked and burnt out nurses. Past studies indicate that researchers have dedicated many resources in the research of nurse staffing and patient quality. Cho et al.,(2016), Cho et al., (2015) and Shekelle (2013) show that indeed there is a correlation between the number of nursing staff in acute healthcare facility and the corresponding patient outcomes.
