Unit 6 M2 Produce and review an action plan

M2

The BTEC Level 3 Health and Social Care course has helped me achieve an expanded knowledge base
that I believe will greatly benefit me in the future. The targets that I set, both short-term and long-
term have aided me in developing and achieving a new and improved skill set. These goals have also
helped motivate me whilst on the course, which admittedly presented a large occurrence of non-
motivation.

I believe that during the course my attitude and behaviour towards the course in general has
become quite positive, as previously it had been very negative, I feel that this may have been due to
the ever expanding workload, however, this has shown me that I can cope under pressure and has
also shown me what I am capable of. I believe that creating the action plan has kept me motivated
and has contributed to the level of effort I have put in to achieving my goals. I aim to attend all
classes and be as punctual as possible, taking in to account that I care for my father and am
responsible for accompanying him to his hospital appointments.

I believe my long-term goals allowed me to determine what I could possibly achieve in the future
and how different my future will be, in a positive light. One of my short-term goals that contributed
to my motivation was to aim for distinctions, this was motivational as I was made aware that gaining
high marks would make me eligible for a grant when I apply for university, which is completely based
on my grades. University is something I look forward to as it will be a whole new experience for me.
Having this as a short-term goal and receiving a grant based on my grades will contribute to the
experience I have whilst at university, financially. A long-term goal that motivated me was organising
and attending student accommodation viewings. This is also an exciting prospect as it makes
attending university next year much more real.

This course, however, has been extremely hard and challenging at times, contributing to times I’ve
felt poorly motivated, extremely tired and overwhelmingly stressed. College has occupied a large
portion of my time making it extremely difficult to balance the work load with relationships, family,
and a social life and also being able to care for my father. It did become much easier to cope with
when my mother retired from full-time work in order to care for father allowing me extra time to
concentrate on assignments. A short-term goal that did provide high levels of stress to me was
completing my placement hours (100+). I began searching for a placement in September and soon
had an interview at Whiston Hospital in November, however, I was met with numerous problems
that meant my progress was halted completely, which I later submitted a formal complaint about. It
was extremely difficult to find a placement, especially whilst caring for my father and attending
hospital and GP appointments with him. I eventually found a placement at a residential care home,
which relieved me of my stress.

The progress I have made throughout the course has been very overwhelming as I have achieved
much more than I believed I was capable of. It has aided in the development of skills that will
become invaluable in my future occupation. I believe the course has also helped me to identify my
strengths and weaknesses, allowing me to improve and utilize them accordingly. I believe that the
course has helped me to become a better person and has helped me to develop greatly. I believe
that the course has made me become aware of my capabilities and has provided me with a much
more positive outlook on my future prospects. A short-term goal that I believe promotes my
progress is the goal to aim for distinctions. I believe that this goal has motivated to believe that I can
achieve greatly if I believe in myself. A long-term goal that I believe represents my progress so far is
to attend open days at both Liverpool John Moore’s University and Edge Hill University. It represents
my future prospects and the positivity I have for my future and wish to succeed. At the beginning of
