For the initial post, respond to one of the following options, and label the
beginning of your post indicating either Option 1 or Option 2:
● Option 1: Does democracy require equality of income or wealth?
Discuss why democracy might make a country more or less
egalitarian?
● Option 2: Political scientist Larry Sabato has proposed a new
constitutional convention

and cons for this idea and support your reasoning.
Hi Professor and Class,
For this post I am choosing option 1.
No, democracy does not require equality of income or wealth. “Democracy is a
system of self- government by the people meaning we are the majority and
majority rules” (Chamberlain College of Nursing, 2021). Many things have
happened without income or wealth, such as the voting rights for women or
African Americans. If income or wealth were required, the people or their voice or
right to vote wouldn’t matter. It would no longer be a democracy.
“An egalitarian favors equality of some sort: People should get the same, or be
treated the same, or be treated as equals, in some respect” ("Egalitarianism
(Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy)", 2002). A democracy can make a country
less egalitarian. For one example, many residents in different states and countries
disagree with a mask mandate continuing. The people have no say in the mask
mandate, therefore the people are not getting what they want, making the
democracy less egalitarian.
