The purpose of this text is to inform the reader about the characteristics & causes of
workplace bullying, as well as the impact it has on the individuals and on organizational
related outcomes.
The text also emphasises how workplace bullying has a powerful impact on the
psychological health of the victims.
Moreover, the text outlines how bullies on the job can cause permanent damage to their
colleagues as victims of workplace bullying have to face shame, embarrassment, and
despair, which can influence their private life as well as their job performance and
satisfaction.
The text clearly states how a power imbalance between the victim and the perpetrator is
regarded as a core characteristic of bullying & how power can take a number of forms (e.g.
physical) and is not limited to hierarchical power.
2. With reference to the whole text, suggest THREE possible ways in which workplace
bullying may be resolved. Cite at least TWO external sources when substantiating

a. Provide easy access to communication channels and support systems:
According to Hoppock (1995), Managers need to implement a clear method—that doesn’t
have recourse—for reporting incivility and bullying. Some organizations have toll-free
hotlines that employees can call to report instances of incivility or feeling targeted.
Managers should also consider implementing employee surveys.
Moreover, managers must address concerns and all forms of aggression while respectfully
attending to employee concerns about incivility and disrespectful verbal aggression
whenever it occurs. When necessary, they must follow through on progressive discipline.
