Discussion 2
Crisis Communication Plan (graded)
What is the role of the Crisis Communication Plan (CCP) in the NIST SP800-34 Framework? Does a CCP differ from a press release? If so, how? Are shareholder or
or public perceptions about your h&ling of a disaster important? What happens if the CCP is bad or does not exist at all?

A crisis communication plan is important because the flow of information needs to be managed. People will be upset & wanting answers. People will be pu
their own agendas, especially the media. It is important to know who will communicate what & when. To avoid misinformation, it is equally important to d
what information is appropriate to share early & which information must wait until full disclosure of facts. How to communicate is also essential. Crisis
communication not only is needed to inform companies, or the public, of what has occurred, it also serves the purpose to control emotions, keep people fo
on recovery, & direct efforts appropriately.
The crisis communications plan typically designates specific individuals as the only authority for answering questions from or providing information to the
regarding emergency response. It may also include procedures for disseminating reports to personnel on the status of the incident & templates for public
releases. (“NIST 800-34, Rev 1 Contingency Planning Guide for Federal Information Systems - sp800-34-rev1_errata-Nov11-2010.pdf,” n.d.)

Crisis Communications Plan
"Organizations should document st&ard procedures for internal & external communications in the event of a disruption using a crisis communications plan. A c

the incident. The crisis communications plan typically designates specific individuals as the only authority for answering questions from or providing information to

A Crisis Communication Plan (CCP) is a plan that is important for an organization to have when the business operation is interrupted. CCP is a plan that is needed t
an immediate communication to an organization if their is an emergency. Having a CCP would will help businesses be prepared for the interruption that may affect
customers & employees. A business will be able to h&le life threatening situations during & after an interruption. It is important for an organization to know how to
communicate with the public, media & government.

The CCP is important because usually after a disaster or other event people can be emotional & irrational. The communication plan can inject some sanity into an
otherwise turbulent moment.
The plan obviously cannot predict all disasters & have a response that would work perfectly for any one particular event but it can help focus the mind & prepare a
person mentally for dealing with the press & give details that the company should be h&ing out during a crisis.
