SUPPORTED AGRICULTURE
Do you know where the food on your dinner table comes from? How does
the food we put into our bodies impact the environment? Make a list of
everything that you eat in 1 day and discuss how your choices or nonchoices
are impacted by the environment and how they in turn impact the
environment.
To get started, read the following Social Action Case Study (Links to an external site.).
One you have completed the reading, provide a summary and action plan based
on evidence from the case study and the assigned reading for this week. You must
include specific examples and a clear recommendation as part of your response.

A Systems Thinking Approach to Community-Based Urban Agriculture by Kalen
Pilkington (Links to an external site.)
Overview of video
Who knew reconnecting people with their local food systems would also
create a new kind of community? Kalen Pilkington illustrates how farming
underutilized land in our backyards can lead us toward system-wide
solutions for some of Earth’s biggest problems. Kalen understands that
sustainability is about more than recycling and saving the bees (although
she really loves bees). It’s about finding a balance between ecological
integrity, economic vitality, social equity, and cultural continuity.

My take on the food system approach is that it is a system encompassing
all the activities and resources that go into producing, distributing, and
consuming food; the drivers and outcomes of those processes; and all the
relationships and feedback loops between system components". Another
important insight about the food systems approach is that agriculture by
what is grown, and how and where it is grown and it plays an essential
role in shaping public health. This insight has shaped our careers. Here is
an interesting article about the food system approach.

Hello Everyone,
A good food system in important for a healthy community. According to
,Hartford Food System, "The food system includes all food–related
activities involving the
, production, processing, transport, and consumption of food." Using the
system approach provides a framework in which to understand means of
action that can aid in healthy food access for everyone. It also ensure
equity for those that produce, distribute, and consume the food. Millions
of people in America are or have experienced food insecurity, mostly
children or the elderly. If we were to start using this system, it would also
create jobs, which is good for the economy. It would help the income of
families, which is one of the reason of food insecurity.

Hi Rachel,
I like your views on good health systems for a community. A lot of
communities have issues with providing the proper nourishment. I also
like how you included a reference page as well.
