,Case: Up to the challenge
Milo, a 17 yrs old child, was described by his mother as disruptive at
school and at work. His desire to participate was a source of conflict
between him and his mother. School administrator’s complained that he
wouldn’t participate in PE at the work site that is part of school
program, seemingly sullen and lashing out to others. Because of his
behavior, they wanted him to be moved with supervision and less
independence.
Evaluation test shows that his IQ scores ranges between 40 to 50.
Although her teachers are caring, they recommend him to be taught
under a special education program. This came out of the observation
that it is difficult for him to thrive in a regular classroom and that to
have peers without disabilities.
Milo, could communicate fairly well when he wanted to but at times he
would become confused about what he wanted to say and there are
moments that it is difficult for him to articulate. He would respond
frustrated with easy tasks. But, his teachers would give him even more
simpler ones and if he resisted, they would respond with more
supervision and structure.
