Chemical bonding is the force that holds atoms together in a molecule. Atoms are

There are three main types of chemical bonds: ionic bonds, covalent bonds, and
metallic bonds.
Ionic bonds occur between metals and nonmetals, and they involve the transfer
of electrons from one atom to another. For example, table salt (NaCl) is made up
of sodium (Na) and chlorine (Cl) ions. Sodium loses one electron to chlorine,
which gains that electron, resulting in a stable ionic bond.
Covalent bonds, on the other hand, occur when two or more nonmetal atoms
share electrons. For example, in water (H2O), the oxygen (O) atom shares
electrons with two hydrogen (H) atoms, forming a covalent bond.
Metallic bonds occur between metal atoms and involve the sharing of electrons
between many atoms. This type of bonding results in metals being good
conductors of electricity and having a lustrous appearance.
