The influence of American Politicians
>The behaviour of American politicians can influence the behaviour and tone of politics in
other countries.
>For example, the strategies used by President Trump and his administration has led to
other governments/politicians adopting negative behaviours.

It’s Membership of International Organisations
>America is an influential member of the UN and other organisations such as NATO.
>For example the USA are part of the G7 which is a group of the 7 wealthiest countries in
the world.


Military Influence
The Huge Size of their Military
>The USA military is so big that they can fight two wars at the same time while still having
the ability to take part in other military commitments around the world.
>For example the USA has the capacity to conduct a war in Iraq and Afghanistan whilst
carrying out operations in Syria.

The Amount of Money they Spend on their Armed Forces
>The USA spends as much on its armed forces as the remaining G7 powers combined which
is around 13x more than the Military Spendings of the UK.
>For example, The USA are investing an estimated $1.45 trillion to produce and operate a
single future aircraft, the F-35.


Economic Influence
Being the Richest Country in the World
>The USA having one of the biggest economies in the world with ¼ of all the money in the
world being from the USA.
>For example, California alone has the 8th largest economy in the whole world

>The Global Banking crisis that was started by US banks and financial companies and their
bad practices.
>For example, This crisis was felt by a number of countries around the world including the
UK.

Political Rights
Vote in Elections
>At federal, state, and local levels, there are regular opportunities to take part in elections, such as
an election for President or State Governor etc.
>For example, in 2020 millions of Americans voted for Joe Biden in the Presidential Election.

Join a Political Party
>Although there are other parties, in reality most Americans either join or associate themselves with
the main two parties, the Democrats and the Republicans. Party members can get involved in the
campaign.
>For example, by displaying yard signs, posters, bumper stickers or by handing out leaflets on behalf
of candidates from their party.


Participating in the Political System
Standing as a Candidate
>US citizens may choose to run as a candidate for a number of positions including
congressman/woman, or state governor, or even for President.
>For example, in 2020 Joe Biden announced he was running for President. In 2020 Alexandria
Ocasio-Cortez (AC) was elected a congresswoman after she put herself forward.

Contributing to a Political Party
>Ordinary citizens can make donations to parties or candidates that they support in order to help
finance their campaign, even celebrities get involved.
>For example, Beyonce contributed to Joe Biden in 2020 and Kanye West contributed to Donald
Trump's re-election campaign.


Importance of Voting
You can have a say on who will run your country
>This choice can have a significant impact on the path a country will take over the next 4 years.
>For example, Donald Trump pulled America out of the Paris climate agreement and the WHO, Joe
Biden cancelled both of these actions when he took office.

Voting helps to protect your interests
>If you don’t vote some of your rights may be removed such as the second amendment.
>For example the right to carry/own a gun and many female democrats turn out to vote because of
the risk of loosing their reproductive rights.
