Wesley "Bad Boy" Boone
Probably has the longest List of missing HW besides Tyrone. Only thing that makes him
do his work is the Harlem Renaissance. Wants to use poetry as a creative expression,
not an essay. Worried about figuring out what to do if he lives.
Wesley- Poem
Long Live Langston Hughes. It was about honoring artists of the Harlem Renaissance.
Tyrone Bittings
Pessimistic about the future. 2 moms. Wouldn't go to school if it wasn't for Wesley.
Makes fun of the others who have a future for he thinks only white people have a future.
No future he believes unless he wants something bad enough. Realizes he want's to be
a songwriter in the future. Dad died.
Tyrone Poem
Attendance. It is about how there is terrorism just like poison gas in the city, the danger
is here but no one has censored death.
Chankara Troupe
Angry, beaten, and vulnerable. Insists she will never be beaten again. Doesn't want to
be like her sister's who are also beaten.
Chankara poem
"Bruised Love." It is about how her sister is so powerless with guys who beat her and
she doesn't have any lame excuses. She has known the truth at ten that her sister is
lying when she says "I bruise easily."
Raul Ramirez
-Confident, Puerto Rican, dreams for a big future. Money doesn't matter, just the paint.
People tell Raul has no future, but he seems to believe in himself. Wants to paint the
beauty of his people.
Poem
"Zorro." This poem is about how Raul is neither Zorro or el bandit and how categories
are too confining.
Diondra Jordan
Shy, has a hidden passion for art, tall, but doesn't play basketball. Dad is disappointed
that she wasn't a boy and doesn't like her art. Dad only wants her to play basketball.
Had no confidence her art is good, until Raul tells her. Decides against dad's wishes
and wants to go to art school. Dates Raul.
Diondra Poem #1
"If." This poem is about if Diondra painted would people laugh out loud or embrace it?
Devon Hope
Is only seen as a basketball player when really has a passion for poetry. Has to sneak
around the library. Devon is tired of pretending to be someone else. Scared of being
authentic. Seen as dumb jock but is a lot more. Likes poetry.
Devon's poem #1
"Bronx Masquerade." This poem how there is more to Devon than jump shot and rim
and how he is tired of hiding himself. "Don't call me Jump Shot. Call me Surprise."
