Week 10 Discussion Graduating from nursing school with a bachelor of science in nursing was a great accomplishment. However, I always knew I wanted to attain a master’s in nursing degree. Being a nurse for thirteen years has taught me so much in life and has given me the gift of compassion and love to care for others in a way that makes a difference. I have decided to further my nursing career as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) with a specialization in Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP). Selecting a nurse practitioner specialty was a difficult decision for me. I struggled with the choice of becoming a Family Nurse Practitioner or an Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner (AGNP). Choosing to become an FNP rather than an AGNP gives me more flexibility in my future career because AGNPs cannot treat children (Thrive AP, 2018). I decided on the FNP specialization because it is more likely to accommodate a practice area that includes pediatric patients.
