• Understand the risks associated with infections in
pregnancy
• Understand the different risks associated with infection at
different gestations
• Be aware of the treatment modalities available and the
long-term outcome
• Be able to counsel a pregnant woman who is exposed to

• During the course of your clinical attachment ascertain what
infection control practices are in place and what routine
screening tests for infection are carried out

Infection in food.
• Soft Cheese : unpasteurized milk and its products may
contain listeria, e.g Brie, Camembert
• Raw Eggs: risk of salmonella
• Meat or pate: undercooked meat may transmit
toxoplasma or listeria
• Fruit: must be washed as may contain salmonella or
toxoplasma
