Adobe Illustrator Training - Class 1 - Selection Tool
Imran Ali Dina explains how to use Adobe Illustrator. He says Illustrator has
a totally different job of making vector illustrations. The software is where
you can design logos, icons and similar small things. Dina: Illustrator can
earn money if you learn it, but definitely you have to learn first. There are
options of mobile devices given too , also for web, print, film & TV , art &
illustration. So there are different sizes available. For example the size for a
postcard is given here. If you do calculations like measurement etc , you
can change units from here. Or if you can even change it inside , after a new
file is taken. If you want to make a square simply press Shift from the
keyboard and then drag. By releasing I mean leaving the mouse button ,
okay ? So from here if I click and drag , and release. See it 'll make a
rectangle for me. For Undo, Ctrl Z. By the way, your other hand will be used
a lot. Many a times you have to press Ctrl , or Shift , or Alt and even all of
them together.
If you select your object and drag it with Alt, then it 'll make a copy of your
object. If you press Alt and move your mouse scroll, then the zoom tool will
zoom out and zoom in. If pressing Spacebar, a hand tool will appear with
which. . . you can pan your artboard meaning you can move and see here
and there. Ctrl+C & Ctrl+V for copy and paste ( respectively ) can be used
too. But the biggest advantage of this option is that you can drag and keep
it wherever you like. Ctrl+D will repeat anything you do with Selection tool.
From anywhere you press Ctrl+A , it 'll select all together. If you only want
to select this much, then do so. And if you want to delete or move,
whatever you want, feel free. Illustrator allows you 6400 %. . . well the CC
version allows 64000 % zoom it gives you. Even if you wan na make a
triangle , you can make it from here. If you click and turn the scroll wheel
up or down, the values will start changing. However I 'm keeping it on 6
sides for now.
At bottom of your Tool bar, there are two boxes called Fill and that one is
Stroke. What is Fill ? It 's the colour you see inside your object. And Stroke ?
The outline you see on your object is the outline you use to create an
outline. If you want to change the colour of Stroke, simply select on the
Stroke ( box ) and you can see the colour panel here.

Tool
In our previous class, we discussed some basic things about the selection
tool and shapes in Illustrator. Today, we will move one step forward and
learn about Direct Selection in Illustrator. It is much similar to the line
segment that we learned in geometry at school. A line that has two
endpoints is known as a line segment, and in Illustrator, it will continuously
guide you about what's near your cursor and where it is going.The main
purpose of Direct Selection is to select points individually and change their
positions, which can change your path's direction completely. Also, if you
select all anchor points, the circle will turn into a rounded rectangle or a
rounded square, which is used to curve any corner.As our body has joints,
similarly, these anchor points are also joints, and through those joints, you
can bend things. However, where there is no joint, you can't bend it. For
example, if I select only this path with Direct Selection and move it, then
only this path will be moving because there are no corners here. However,
we shall see more examples in a few moments.
You can create any type of box using the selection Tool, which displays the
bounding box. To increase the size proportionally, press Shift while
dragging the box. If you want to decrease its height, click on the anchor
point tool and add Bezier handles, also known as curve handles. In
geometry, these handles are called tangents. Though, the pen tool is
sufficient for both functions, and clicking on an existing path will add
anchor points. However, be careful not to add too many anchor points or
start drawing with the pen tool.
The first step is to use the direct selection tool to select the upper point.
Then hold the handle to the right and pull it outside to make it broader
from upwards. To create an ideal shape of a grape, no pen tool or pencil is
required. Inside the grape shape, a tiny stick needs to be added. Use the
line segment tool and select the arc tool to create the stick. Shortcut keys
can be used for moving objects, like pressing shift+ctrl+left square bracket
to move an object entirely behind. Remember to practice these steps a lot
for improved skill.
