• Amazon rainforest characteristics:
• High average annual temperature (25 – 30
degrees)
• Due to intense insolation throughout year. Cloud
cover means it doesn’t get as hot as in sub-
tropical deserts
• Small seasonal variation in temperature
• High average rainfall (>2000mm) no dry
season
• Between 50% and 60% of precipitation is
recycled by evapotranspiration
• Water is lost from Amazon basin as a result
