RHETORICAL ANALYSIS: ARTICLE REVIEW
This article is based on the attacks made by ISIS to America, Turkey, and France. It goes
into detail about the toll of deaths when these attacks were made and the matters discussed in the
aftermath. The author’s audience is the general public, using logos to streamline events that took
place allowing the reading a better advantage point on the message of the article. She uses facts
to promote evidence on the domestic policies that were put forth. The article in question makes a
stark claim as to the process of thought behind the policies, an argument based on logic and facts.
The effectiveness of this article leads a more positive approach as to the protection instilled
within Trump’s power.
The author, Sharon Hofisi, uses logos to implement a factual argument. Consistently
stating historical occurrences and the outlying paths taken in the aftermath. Although, there
seems to be an irregular rhythm to the timeline. She will state an attack from terrorists that
occurred within the past 20 years, and then bring in a similar event that would occur 25 years or
more before the current attack. “November 20, 1979 reminds us of the Islamist dissidents of
Mecca -- the holiest place in Islam. The mulish mutineers massacred 255 pilgrims who were
attending the annual haj. Their leader, Mohammed Abdullah al-Qahtani, proclaimed himself the
Mahdi or redeemer of Islam. A quick gaze on the IS acts will also show that: 9/11 had 3000
deaths.” (Trump’s Domestic Policy) She uses this tactic to incite a sense of pathos, emotional,
response. Allowing for the decisions made towards the protection of our nation by President
Trump to evoke a sense of promise.
