Hoofdstuk 6: Qualitative provess analysis

Techniques

Process analysis is an art and science. Qualitative analysis is the “artistic” side of process analysis.
There are several process analysis techniques:

1. Qualitative analysis:
- Value-added analysis
- Root-Cause Analysis
- Pareto Analysis
- Issue Register

2. Quantitative analysis:
- Quantitative Flow Analysis
- Queuing Theory
- Process Simulation

Goal of qualitative analysis

1. Identify and eliminate waste
Technique: value-added analysis
a. Value classification: decompose the process into steps, identify who the customer is
and what are the positive outcomes for the customer. Classify the steps into 3
categories:
o Value-adding (VA) (a process step adds value)
o Business value-adding (BVA) (a process step is necessary or useful for the
business to run smoothly)
o Non-value adding (NVA) (the step does not add value)
 Make a step/actor/classification to classify the steps into one of the three
catagories
b. Waste elimination
Waste = unnecessary steps (task, part of a task, handover between tasks) in business
processes.
3. Identify, understand and prioritize issues
Techniques:
o Issue register
o Root-cause analysis (e.g. cause-effect diagram)
o Pareto analysis
