Unit 19 Assignment
1 Learning Aim A

,Concepts of nutritional health
• Nutritional health requires the intake and absorption of protein, lipids,
and carbohydrate that, together, maintain the structure and meet the
energy requirements of tissues.

• A balanced diet is necessary for the human body to function properly. A
balanced diet is a diet consisting of a variety of food that provides
sufficient amounts of nutrients required for good health
• Carbohydrates give out energy and are found in foods such as bread,
potatoes and pasta.

• The eat well plate shows the ratio of different ingredients that you
should consume daily in a balance diet. A balanced diet should contain
adequate amounts of carbohydrates ,proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals.

,Under –nutrition and deficiency
• Malnutrition refers to deficiency, excess or an inbalance in an individual's
nutrient intake. .This happens when your diet lacks the nutrients. .When this
happens, it can lead to many diseases which includes sickness and problems in
the immune system. People may become undernourished if they are unable to
get or prepare food,if they have a disorder that makes consuming food
challenging. When your food doesn't contain the recommended number of
nutrients, malnutrition occurs. One of the numerous varieties of malnutrition is
undernutrition. As people may become underweight when there isn't enough
food in the body's system. Malnutrition may lead to unintentional weight loss, a
low body mass index and vitamin and mineral deficiencies.
• Over nutrition is a type of malnutrtion caused by an excessive intake of nutrients,
which causes body fat to build up and leads to adverse health consequences.
Excessive amounts of nutrients(over nutrition) can impact an individual's
metabolism and can cause undesirable weight gains from time to time.
• Diseases such as cholesterol and heart problems can occur which will deteriorate
an individuals health and wellbeing.

, Overweight and obesity
• Overweight and obesity are defined as excessive growth of fat that can affect health. BMI-Bo
mass index commonly used to classify overweight and obesity in adults. As it's the same for b
sexes and for adults all ages, BMI is the most effective population level indicator of overweigh
and obesity.
• Overweight and obesity can be caused by having insomnia or lack of physical activity. This is
because the brain may be slow to function and can't process the excessive amounts of food
stored in the body.
• Your risk of being overweight and obese can be increased by unhealthy lifestyle choices like n
getting enough exercise and consuming foods and drinks that are high in calories but poor in
nutrients.
• People that take medication for health problems such as depression, diabetes or high blood
pressure can experience being obese as the body may react quickly to certain chemicals and
substances in the body.
