Cultures are an important aspect not only of Egypt but the entire nations in the
world. As results of these different countries have different legal laws that ensure the
protection of the specific cultural heritage of many nations. Apparently, there lie many
similarities between the Egyptian laws on the portion of archeological sites and the
American law. Therefore, similar to the Egyptian protection law is the American law on
protection of cultural items termed as the Native American Grave Protection and
Repatriations Act (NAGPRA). The Act was enacted in the year 1990 on 16th of
November.
NAGPRA focuses most on the American descendants' materials. This includes
materials within the grave, unlike the Egyptian which concentrates primarily on all the
cultural materials. Additionally, NAGPRA employs people to engage in underground
extraction to discover new cultural elements1. This is not that case in the Egyptian law as
it does not use agencies to search for the cultural and historical materials mostly found
underneath the ground.
Lastly, it is important to highlight that regardless of their differences, the US
ensures that any historical artifacts are passed as cultural or historical devices by the
NAGPRA. This is a form of registration which was also pointed out in the Egyptian law
of protecting the archeological sites and whatever materials they contain. Based on the
two laws described above, it is evident that the laws help in the preservation and
