Comparison of Acute Care Nurse Practitioner and Family Nurse Practitioner
Compare and contrast the FNP role with another NP role and explain the differences in the
population foci.
The family nurse practitioner undergoes a more flexible program, enabling the graduates
to ultimately treat individuals of all ages ranging from infants to geriatrics (Chavez et al., 2018).
Conversely, a nurse practitioner specialist has a narrower scope and deal with a specific age
group, medical setting, or branch of medicine (Kleinpell et al., 2019). Therefore, this implies that
the specialty that the nurse practitioner chooses dictates the specific duties to be performed and
the population that the nurse focuses on. The family nurse practitioner differs from this stance in
as they focus on the general population and their families. The family nurse practitioner can
perform some of the physician's roles with the exceptions of a few states that only permit them to
work on these roles under the supervision of a physician(Chavez et al., 2018). They provide their
services in various healthcare facilities such as community health centers, private practice, and
educational institutions. They diagnose and treat health conditions in collaboration with fellow
health care professionals while educating patients and their families.
