In St. Thomas’ Summa Theologica revealed truths are divided into two categories Faith and Reason. 4. He used correctly the Greek philosopher Aristotelian thought combining it with Christian divine revelation. 5. When the Western Roman Empire collapsed after 476 what was the role the Church played in the medieval era? The church provided a hope for salvation after natural death. Church gave sacraments such as baptism, communism, confession, absolution & prayers as a way to go to heaven. 6. The three social classes that composed medieval society were Clergy, Nobility & The Common People. 7. Why did feudalism develop and how did it work? Briefly explain what role did the feudal lords and vassals with the serf play in this society. Feudalism grew the military, political and economic systems. The King established them in case they were attacked and could not defeat the invaders alone. The Serfs exchanged part of their agriculture for free land & protection. 8. What were the guilds and how did they help their members? The Guilds was a means by which an specific trade was established to a more refined stage and transmitted to a new generation. It empower craftsmen to bargain for better wages. Also they were able to get pensions for the disabled members or in case that they died their families would be taken care of & not remain hopeless. 9.
