Abdominal Cavity
The central gut tube is suspended
from the posterior and anterior
abdominal wall by mesenteries

Ventral (anterior) mesentery for
the proximal gut tube

Dorsal (posterior) mesentery for
the entire gut tube

The cavity is lined by peritoneum,
which is similar to the pleura

Parietal peritoneum lines the
abdominal wall

Visceral peritoneum covers the
suspended organs
