Long subcutaneous border +
surface: Anteromedial

Fibula: Lateral + Thinner

Upper end: Receives lateral
ligament of knee + biceps
tendon

Shaft mainly for toes muscles +
2 fibular muscles

Both bones have enlarged lower
ends
⇒ Form the malleoli
Medial malleolus for the tibia
and lateral malleolus for the
fibula

⇒ The two malleoli form a mortise
to grip the talus

Only tibia articulates with the
femur

Additional bone: Patella (biggest
sesamoid bone) which forms the
knee cap which is palpable and
move around
