COURSE DESCRIPTION TOP
This course emphasizes the basic principles and applications of law, ethics, and
bioethics as they relate to the medical arena. It covers legal terms, consent,
contracts, physician/patient relationships, professional liability, and various
medical issues. Through lectures, class discussions, case studies, and library
research, students acquire knowledge of the importance of their professional, legal
and ethical responsibilities.
COURSE OUTCOMES TOP
Course Outcomes: By the end of this course, you should be able to:
HS101-1: Discuss the implications of legal and ethical standards for
healthcare professionals.
HS101-2: Discuss federal and state health-care regulations.
HS101-3: Explain legal and ethical principles of confidentiality.
HS101-4: Apply ethical standards in accordance with applicable certification
agencies. General Education Outcomes: In addition, the following General
Education outcomes are assessed during this course:
GEL 1.1: Demonstrate college-level communication through the composition of
original materials in Standard American English
