A COMPARISON BETWEEN THE UNITED STATES AND THE UNITED KINGDOM

HEALTHCARE SYSTEMS.

From a global perspective, The United States and The United Kingdom (dependent variable) has

one of the world's best health care systems. However, these countries' health care systems differ

due to the factors (independent variable) such as economy, political institutions, interest groups,

history, citizen's attitude towards government, and the private sector. These factors will help

analyze the two health care systems to find out which one is better than the other.

We have quite many similarities between the U.S. and the U.K. health systems. To start with, in

both nations, the private sectors are the leading health service provider. Even though the U.S. has

an extensive private healthcare system, the U.K. highly depends on the private sector for medical

services. In both countries, the governments invest in the healthcare system by subsidizing

services to ensure that individuals access healthcare services in the private and public sectors

access the services at an affordable rate. Besides, most hospitals are owned by either profit-

making organizations or charitable organizations. The majority of the citizens in both nations

access medical services through health insurance, Medicaid programs, and Medicare

(Papanicolas et al., 2018). Only a tiny fraction of citizens use their financial resources to cater to

medical services.

The outcome of healthcare systems in both countries is world-class, making the differences in

healthcare services minimal. The two nations are ranked among the leading nations globally due

to the private risk financing system in the United States, and the United kingdom has the national

tax-based system. These programs have been of great aid in financing the health system using

the two nations' available resources. The response of health systems in both the U.K. and the

U.S. are very high. From the world health organization report, the two nations are acknowledged

,to have the most responsive designs in the world (Bekelman et al.,2016). the elevation of

financial constraints is what enhances the responsiveness of a health system.

Apart from that, there exist several critical differences between the U.S. and the U.K. health

system. The U.S.'s health care system is relatively expensive compared with the U.K.'s health

system alongside other developed countries like Germany and China. At the start of the 21st

century, the U.S. healthcare system's cost increased more than it did in the past century. On the

contrary, in the United Kingdom, approximately 80% of the aggregate government expenditure

was used to public-fund healthcare accounts. On every spent in the United States, a substantial

fraction goes to pharmaceutical products, hospital care, investment programs in the health sector,

and clinical services, making the Medicare cost high (Papanicolas et al., 2018). The health care

system in the U.K. is sponsored wholly by the government, which makes it different from the

health care system of the United States. As opposed to the United States healthcare system,

people use private or public healthcare services according to their needs and not their ability to

pay in the United Kingdom (Bryant, 2019).

U.K.'s health care system is characterized by National Health Insurance that makes everyone

covered as a matter of right. In contrast, the private health care market dominates in the U.S.,

where millions of Americans remain uninsured. Due to the Affordable care Act, many poor and

middle-income families are now eligible to obtain financial assistance for health care in U.S.

(Trudy Lieberman, 2012). U.S. health insurance is no doubt complex and has its own culture.

Critics advocate the U.S. health care system as chaotic and confusing. People in the U.S. are

confused about getting health care and paying for the service. But people in the U.K. do not have

to be worried about such issues. In all the critical health outcome indicators like quality,

efficiency, access, and equity, United States ranks beyond the other major western countries.

, According to the 2014 edition of Mirror, Mirror, considering the data for 11 major advanced

countries, U.K. ranks first, followed by Switzerland. (The Common Wealth fund, 2014).

In the U.S, ownership of healthcare systems is usually privatized. However, the local

government, along with the state, has its facilities. In the United States, there is an absence of

government-owned healthcare facilities that can attend to the general public (Jakovljevic &

Getzen, 2016). As posed to the U.S, the systems that deal with healthcare delivery are maintained

mainly by devolved governments. In the U.S, physicians acquire their training through the

medical education system. Every practitioner must have a medical license that is issued within

state jurisdiction. The increased expenditure in the American healthcare system has triggered an

increased workforce in the health sector. It has seen one American in every eight working in a

healthcare-related industry (Bekelman et al., 2016). Regarding the U.K.'s healthcare system that

devolved governments extensively fund, its workforce is liable to the National Health Service

(NHS). The NHS is the largest employer in the U.K., with more than 1.3 million workers

incorporated within the healthcare sector.

As millions within the U.S. receive coverage through the expanded Medicaid, formulated under

the Affordable Care Act of 2010 (Huntington et al., 2011), many individuals, including children,

have missed opportunities that are met through insuring them. It is due to the lack of knowledge

of existing policies. Both social and paid media have, in the longest time, created great

opportunities through outreach efforts and helped an organization reach its new audiences. Social

media platforms incorporate many tools that help assist an organization when planning. Due to

these factors, various organizations have created campaigns such as the Suncoast Campaign

program, which has come up with digital media that has reduced the number of uninsured

children within the community (Tompson & Dixon, 2017). By posting videos and images and
